Why PhD 2
A decision to go for higher studies is generally met with incredulity, surprise, consternation and even strong opposition in our country. Generally, for men, opting higher studies is considered equivalent to not joining the workforce. For women, it's considered a delay in getting married and reducing the set of eligible grooms.
Needless to say, we eagerly wait for the day when these thoughts become a matter of the past. I know a large number of women who have survived this hurdle and gone on to earn a Ph.D. Further, they are making significant contributions to the world -- as scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs, authors, managers, leaders, social workers, artists, mothers ... as themselves.
Frankly, I don't understand what more than this the world needs to realise their potential and give them their due place in making this world a better place.
